How to Remove Google.com Black Bar? Posted: 14 Jul 2011 08:55 AM PDT Google recently launched a new design which sports a new Black menu bar with grey colored text. The new menu bar is an eyesore and is being hated by many people. If you are someone who does not like the new design change by Google, here are few ways to disable or change it back to an earlier version with white background and blue links (coming soon). Right now you completely disable the black menu bar on all Google pages. The trick uses a Greasemonkey script so you will need a compatible browser or user a workaround to run Greasemonkey scripts in Opera, Internet Explorer or Safari. Like I said, right now I just hide the bar completely, but I am working on modifying the script to change the black bar to an earlier version of Google. Stay tuned for updates on this post to know when it has been updated. I have tested the script and it works in Opera, Firefox and Google Chrome. I am still testing it in Internet Explorer 9. In the meantime, have fun without the ugly black bar in Google Search. You can download and install the Google Black Bar hider script from here. Update: You can also return back to the classic toolbar for Google by installing this script.

Google+ Facebook Extension Problems Posted: 14 Jul 2011 04:56 AM PDT Google+Facebook is a Chrome extension that lets users view Facebook stream within Google+. It is a popular extension but people might be risking their security because of how the program is coded. The extension was developed by Israeli developer Crossrider. The extension lets users update their Facebook statuses from within Google+. According to company executives, there are more than 100,000 downloads for Google+Facebook in just a week. Crossrider said that they built the extension in just one day and it is not perfect. There might be some things that the developers could have missed. There are people concerned about the security regarding Google+Facebook. There are people who complained that the extension acted like a malware and it could be a security risk. It downloads an external JavaScript file when it launches. Once a hacker compromises the server, all users are affected. There are other complaints about the extension. People claimed that it changing search preferences to a site controlled by Crossrider and changing the signature to email messages sent on certain webmail services. Crossrider answered the accusations by saying Google+Facebook is at the edge of extension technology. It doesn't change anything in one's system without permission. But there are still warnings to uninstall the extension for now.
Time Warner And Facebook Team Up To Fight Bullying Posted: 14 Jul 2011 04:56 AM PDT Time Warner and Facebook announced last Tuesday that they will join the fight against bullying. This will be an initiative that will cross various platforms. The campaign is called Stop Bullying: Speak Up. This is also the name of the anti-bullying initiative started by Time Warner's Cartoon Network. The campaign will feature print, broadcast, social and online media to teach parents, youth and their teachers about the dangers of bullying and how to prevent it. Facebook is set to launch an interactive app in time for the back to school season in fall that will empower parents, educators, and kids to make a personal vow to stop bullying. In its part, Time Warner plans to expand its multimedia campaign to spread the anti-bullying message to a wider audience. Last October, three of its magazines and their web sites featured content that highlights the bullying problem and the various programs that can prevent it from happening. CNN's Anderson Cooper will host a town hall that is scheduled to be aired in October. It will discuss the bullying issues in the United States as well as discussions with experts that will teach adults on how to deal with bullying. This will be in partnership with Facebook.
EMYS emotive head system has many expressions Posted: 14 Jul 2011 04:56 AM PDT While researchers do their best to create robots that can replace humans, regular robot-looking robots are still around and haven't been forgotten. Some folks at the Wroclaw University of Technology in Poland have been working on a robot called EMYS (Emotive head system) and have come up with a pretty impressive machine. With the use of sensors and programmed emotions, the robot can learn to recognize different situations and react accordingly. In the demonstration video, when a cigarette was lit up, it gave a "stoned" look as if it was enjoying a blunt, while a pillow signaled the robot to yawn and then fall asleep. And that's just the head alone. When connected to its body (which resembles a Segway), it gets an arm to point with and shake hands with but compared to the head, you can tell it needs a little more work there.
Ovation app lets you constantly rate a show/performance while it is going on Posted: 14 Jul 2011 04:56 AM PDT You have probably walked out of a cinema or a performance thinking to yourself, "Yeah, that wasn't too bad," despite the fact that there might have been certain bits during the movie which made you want to fall asleep. Well it looks like there's a new way for you to rate a show or performance constantly, which would in turn provide better feedback to the performer or the movie company as to which parts were loved and which were hated.
A computer that “reads” the manual and beats us at the Civilization game Posted: 14 Jul 2011 04:56 AM PDT If you're wondering how on earth you are getting beaten by a computer in the game Civilization, it's not because the computer is cheating or because you're horrible at it (although that is debatable), but it's because unlike the most of us, the computer actually bothered "reading" the game manual and "learning" from it.

eCortina v2 hybrid gives electric bike owners more options Posted: 14 Jul 2011 04:56 AM PDT For those who prefer not to ride on electric scooters, there's always the alternative (apart from walking or public transport) which is the electric bike. While electric bikes can be pedaled like a regular bike, they also come in two flavors – one where the pedaling is assisted by the electric motor, and one where it is completely motor driven. "But what if I want both features and regular pedaling?" you ask. Well it seems that you're not alone as California EV designer Roy Prince has come up with an electric bike that will not only let you pedal as per normal, but also provide pedal assistance, and at the same time give you the option of having it completely motor driven, thus the eCortina v2 hybrid was born.
Neurowave Medical Technologies releases the Nometex, said to help combat CINV Posted: 14 Jul 2011 04:56 AM PDT When it comes to treating cancer, chemotherapy is usually the well-travelled route, but along with the treatment comes several side-effects, none of which are too pleasant for the person undergoing said treatment. Side-effects include the weakening of the immune system, fatigue, hair loss, and last but not least, nausea and vomiting. Chicago-based Neurowave Medical Technologies has released a new medical device that the company claims will help to prevent nausea and vomiting. The device in question is called Nometex and it resembles a wrist-watch. How it works is it uses a method by NMT which is a non-drug treatment that relies on the company's proprietary neuromodulation technology platform to positively modulate neural pathways using electrical pulses for prophylaxis, breakthrough, or refractory CINV (chemotherapy-induce nausea and vomiting). It is said to be able to offer patients a rapid onset of action, usually within minutes, and is said to reduce the side-effects of CINV that are normally treated with pharmaceuticals. Their first model, the Nometex N2C, is reported to provide up to 150 hours of therapy, which the company claims will be able to help most patients through two cycles worth of therapy. At the moment it does not appear that the device can be bought off the shelves, but NMT will be releasing more of the Nemotex to over 1,700 Oncology clinics within the US.
